At Thornlie Senior High School, we offer a unique, portfolio-based pathway that keeps all post-secondary school options open for students. Our academy is designed to cater to individual interests and passions through a combination of research, projects, and internships.
Key Features:
- Small Advisory Sizes: Each advisory consists of just 17 students, ensuring personalised attention and support.
- Student-Centred Learning Plans: Students create learning plans based on their interests in collaboration with advisory teachers and families, fostering a personalised and engaging educational experience.
- Diverse Learning Opportunities: Our students engage in journaling, reading, social action projects, video profiles, autobiographies, guest speakers, outlearning, and other enriching activities.
- Exhibitions: Each term, students present exhibitions showcasing their discoveries and pursuits.
- Portfolios: Students create and curate an E-Portfolio, documenting their learning journey and experiences.
Our Curriculum: Our curriculum is built around six essential learning goals: Quantitative Reasoning, Social Reasoning, Personal Qualities, Empirical Reasoning, Communication, Knowing How to Learn.
A Three-Year Journey: Starting at Year 10, students embark on a three-year journey culminating in the achievement of the International Big Picture Learning Credential (IBPLC). Throughout this journey, students have one advisory teacher, allowing the development of strong relationships with the student and their families (families are enrolled too).
It is then enriched by real-world, hands-on experiences in the form of internships and is supported by a community of learners.
