Thornlie Senior High School students fulfil their aspirations working in an environment that emphasises the importance of respectful relationships and the achievement of personal best.
Our Vision – Engage, Inspire, Achieve
Welcome to Thornlie Senior High School – where we inspire, engage and empower every student to reach their full potential. Since 1971, we have been committed to providing a world-class education in a safe, inclusive and culturally responsive environment. With approximately 1200 students from Years 7 to 12, we take great pride in offering a personalised learning experience that challenges and supports each child academically and personally.
At Thornlie SHS, we believe in High Performance – High Care.
Our school fosters a culture of respectful relationships, academic excellence and personal growth. We embrace well-established traditions while integrating the latest research and instructional strategies, ensuring students develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Our 2024-2027 Business Plan is built on three key priorities: building staff capacity and wellbeing, engaging each student and connecting with the community. These priorities guide our commitment to continuous improvement and creating a positive, supportive environment for all.
We offer a diverse range of programs tailored to our students’ aspirations. In Years 7 to 10, students can engage in specialist programs such as Rugby, Netball, Music and Academic Extension, as well as a wide variety of extracurricular opportunities in Cheer and Dance, Japanese, AUSLAN, STEM, Art and sports. As students move into their senior years, they have the opportunity to pursue ATAR courses, Vocational Education & Training (VET), General Studies and the Big Picture Academy, preparing them for university, further training or the workforce. As an accredited Registered Training Organisation (RTO), we also offer 9 Certificate II courses, equipping students with valuable industry-recognised qualifications.
Beyond the classroom, our extensive extracurricular programs nurture leadership, teamwork, and creativity, ensuring students develop essential life skills. As a proud multicultural school, we celebrate diversity and encourage cultural exchange and global understanding, creating an environment where every student feels valued and supported.
With modern, well-equipped facilities and a team of passionate educators, we provide a dynamic learning environment that fosters innovation, creativity, and academic excellence. Our dedicated staff go beyond teaching – they mentor and guide students, helping them navigate their individual pathways to success.
We also recognise that education is a shared responsibility. Strong connections with families, local businesses, and community organisations are at the heart of our school, ensuring students have the support and opportunities they need to thrive. Backed by our active School Board and P&C, we work together to create a positive and enriching educational experience.
Thornlie Senior High School is more than just a place of learning – it is a community that nurtures ambition, encourages achievement and prepares students for a bright future in a world full of opportunities. I look forward to working alongside you and your child as we continue to engage, inspire and achieve together.
