Events

Students will engage in a lecture about how Zoo keepers use Classical and Operant conditioning to feed, clean and provide medical aid to animals in their care. The lecture also covers how zoo keepers use desensitization processes to help treat phobias. Students will be meeting at Thornlie Train Station by 8:30. They will be taking the train to Perth and the ferry over to the Zoo. Students will spend the day at the Zoo including a psychology lecture on Classical/ operant conditioning and phobias.

Thornlie SHS will be taking on the best Rockingham have to offer in the 3rd round of the NRLWA School Competition. Our Year 9 boys start off the day at 10.00am followed by our Year 10 boys at 11. 00am. Students will need to arrive at School in FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM at the start of Period 1 to meet Mr Bruns outside the Rugby Gym and be of good standing in order to play. On conclusion of the Year 9 game, Year 9's will stay to support the Year 10 boys. On conclusion of the Year 10 game, students will help pack up the field, return to the Rugby Office to get changed. Year 8 students will then go to Period 4, while Mr Bruns will have a debrief with the Year 10's during Period 4, then be released at the start of lunch. It is IMPERATIVE THAT ALL students need to be Registered through MySideline in order to play in the NRLWA Schools Competition. Students will need to REGISTER UNDER THORNLIE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (Team).

An educational visit to Curtin University giving international students insight into campus life, study pathways, and future opportunities in Australia

The Work Inspiration events give school students the opportunity to visit the workplace of one of The Smith Family’s partner organisations for two to three days. Kinetic IT is one such partner organisation About Kinetic IT and The Smith Family partnership In 2021, Kinetic IT entered into a five-year partnership with The Smith Family. With a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, Kinetic IT sees its partnership with The Smith Family as a real opportunity to equip young people with the capabilities to enter the IT industry.

Students from Years 7-9 are participating in a School Sport Volleyball event at Warwick Stadium against various schools from the South East corridor. Students have been training throughout the year, and this allows them to showcase their skills against other schools in a friendly competition as well as representing the school, in an Interschool Competition.
